Czech Mates: Holocaust Legacy

Czech Mates Holocaust Legacy

Tibor and Sarlota Weiss met during the Holocaust while hiding in a closet in rural Slovakia. Upon liberation they got married, started a family and then had to escape communism by moving to Israel. From there, it was off to their final destination….The United States. This books charts the whole-life journey of these incredible people in this “Survive and Thrive” book written by their grandson, David Weiss. Sarlota was born in 1906 and Tibor was born in 1915, just miles apart in present day Slovakia. Life was certainly not supposed to turn out the way it did. After normal, happy childhood years and into early adulthood, life was setting up as it should. Then Hitler came to power and the world was turned upside down. Tibor became a slave laborer and eventually needed to go into hiding. Sarlota was hid throughout the war and even had to escape from a deportation center which has a train ready and bound for Auschwitz. Only 17% of Slovak Jews survived. Somehow, Tibor and Sarlota were two of the few Survivors. After meeting while living in the same closet for five months, Tibor and Sarlota got married. They were happy to have each other, but deeply saddened that almost all of their family members had not survived. In 1947 there son was born and in 1949 they were told to leave Czechoslovakia or face a very rough future under communism. They spent the next three years in Israel as Tibor helped the Israeli Defense Force build and rebuild airplanes for military use. Then Sarlota brought the family to the United States so she could be near her only surviving sister (out of eight children). They made a new life and blazed a new trail in the United States. Readers will be amazed at how these two Survivor’s began their life in small town Slovakia, the horrors they lived through, how they survived and the people they became. Their grandson brings Tibor and Sarlota to life in this touching, inspiring book that readers have been raving about. While these two Survivor’s are no longer with us, they both lived very long lives and built a legacy that will be alive for many, many years to come. Fans of inspirational books, history, the Holocaust and triumphs of the human spirit will fall in love with “Czech Mates: Holocaust Legacy” $4.99 on Kindle.
