The genesis of No Credit came after a seemingly endless discussion with friends and colleagues who loved the fictional world that allowed men, women, boys, and girls to become something they were not, but wrapped in capes, given unimaginable powers, and seen as exceptional. The discussion centered around the idea of individuals called supes and superheroes. The discussion, long ago, in a comic bookstore with comic book lovers, employees and the occasional passersby, revolved around the biggest and most recognizable names and brands, but I recalled the bigger question being: Where are the Black characters in the comics?

The Julia Street Series brings this small place to life in a big way. Perhaps you were lucky enough to grow up in such a place, where neighbors supported each other, where children roamed freely and there was a sense of community. You will find everyday trials and tribulations common to many and a vivid portrayal of a time long ago. There is a lot of truth within the people depicted. The Julia Street Series details the African American experience in the 20th Century.

A twenty year grudge plus a target…equals payback. Time had caught up with the Watson clan, and Karen Monroe is about to deliver her brand of justice for what they did to her family years ago. Douglas Watson becomes her ideal instrument of revenge. Enter Operation: ‘Bring Him Down.’ The thing is that God is not mocked, and when He says vengeance is His, He means it. Karen, however, forgot those little details.

Her ‘Bring Him Down’ plan backfires, and her tangled web of deceit traps her as well as Douglas. His heart isn’t the only one that is broken. Now they are both stuck in a situation where only strife and pain reign. Will she forgive his family for the hurt they caused hers, especially since they haven’t changed? Or will hatred cause the permanent loss of the man she loves and even the salvation of her soul?
