Amazon might be more excited than their customers about the potential color display because this upgrade will open up a whole new world of advertising targeting Amazon Kindle users.

A technology analyst who is renowned for his accurate predictions says the Amazon Kindle will likely evolve to have an Advanced Color ePaper (ACeP) screen by 2025. Ming-Chi Kuo, the analyst, predicts that Amazon will release a 6-inch and 10-inch color Kindle e-reader.

Reasons to use Kindle warm light

If you feel like you spend most of your reading time straining your eyes, then you should definitely look into using a warm screen. People strain their eyes while using screens because of three reasons:

Does Amazon sell more print books or ebooks

From the numbers above you might conclude that Amazon sells more eBooks than print books. But that’s not technically true. While Amazon sold 487 million ebooks in the past year, a decent percentage of those were free books and another big percentage were “sold” via Kindle Unlimited which is an all-you-can-read monthly subscription. So when it comes to a customer paying money to own a book, Amazon sold more print books last year. When it comes to a customer acquiring a book to read by any means then more ebooks were downloaded than print books were sold.

Note that Amazon does not disclose book sales numbers, so the figures above are estimations from various sources. According to The Small Business Blog, Amazon’s print book sales have increased significantly since 2022, with the ratio reaching three times more print books sold than ebooks by the end of 2023. This trend may be linked to changing customer behavior and preferences for physical rather than electronic reading.

Amazon’s influence on the book industry, both in print and ebook sales, is undeniable. Recent trends indicate a resurgence of print books over ebooks. Why you can no longer purchase ebooks on some Kindle reading devices

Until recently, all Kindle e-readers allowed you to purchase books directly from the device. However, Amazon made a notable adjustment, leading to the discontinuation of this feature on certain Kindle models.

Trends among the Best Kindle Books of 2023

As is typical, the “best” books on Kindle are also happen to be the best sellers. But let’s not quibble between the differences of best and best-seller. Let’s look instead at how these titles speak to societal trends and our current, collective obsessions.

This year there are less rom-coms and thrillers than usual and more psychological thrillers, Colleen Hover, and dark romance books filling up the spots. Colleen Hoover, author of It Ends With Us, occupies no less than 9 spots in the list. While psychothriller author Freida McFadden also has a number of books on the list.

This list also features multiple books in a series: readers following characters they love over an extended narrative, with fiction from traditional publishing houses overwhelming all other genres on the list. There’s also a couple of new biographies and non-fiction perennial best sellers on the list.

2023’s top books so far suggests a lively fiction marketplace, defined by a need for escapist fare, a balance of light and dark, with a sprinkling of self-improvement. Punchy titles of 2 and 3 words make up a big chunk of the list. And while last year many covers featured the male form in varying states of undress, this year the romance novels area a bit darker and twisted and their covers tend to shy away from showing the bare-chested hunk, in favor of a brooding man. The other trend in romance covers seems to be flowers.

While escape into new passion proves to be one recurring theme, readers also seek occasional nostalgic reads. Titans of horror and fantasy also make guest appearances.

Before Alexa can read your Kindle book, make sure you have these things: 1) an Amazon account, 2) the Kindle book you want Alexa to read, 3) a device that works with Alexa like an Amazon Echo or the Alexa app on your phone.

How to find eligible Kindle books for Alexa to read

To find eligible Kindle books that Alexa can read, use the Alexa mobile app. You will need to turn on Kindle Assistive Reader to view your list of supported Kindle books. Here’s how: from the Alexa mobile app, go to More > Settings > Accessibility and turn on Kindle Assistive Reader. Then, open the Alexa app and under Kindle Library, select a book from the list. Choose an available device that you want Alexa to read from.

Help, my Kindle book is not syncing with Alexa

If you’re experiencing syncing issues with books read by Alexa with Kindle Assistive Reader, don’t worry, there are steps you can take to troubleshoot the problem.

Alexa starts reading from the most recent page read on any device. To help set context, Alexa may start reading from the previous paragraph from your most recent page. If Kindle Assistive Reader isn’t starting from the place you last read, open the book on the Amazon device or Kindle reading app where you were last reading. Confirm that the device has internet connectivity, and then open the book manually to the furthest page read. Select the menu icon and sync the book manually to that page. Once syncing is complete, ask Alexa to play your Kindle book, and reading will pick up from that spot.

Help, Alexa is not reading my Kindle books

If you encounter any issues with Alexa not reading your Kindle books, there are a couple of things you can do:

• First, confirm that your Kindle book is supported by Kindle Assistive Reader on Alexa by asking Alexa to “Show my Kindle books” or use the Alexa app to see a full list of supported books.
• If you’ve confirmed your books are supported, unplug the power adapter from your Echo device and plug it back in.

Recycling Kindle vs Trading in a Kindle

While recycling doesn’t come with direct incentives, it’s a convenient way to declutter your home of broken devices, so long as they don’t have leaking batteries, with the satisfaction of keeping your Kindle out of landfill. Amazon also offers a Kindle trade in program which gives you credit towards future purchases with Amazon.

Whether you choose to recycle or trade in your Kindle, it’s a good idea to do a factory reset on your Kindle, to remove personal information, before sending in your device.

How to use Amazon’s Kindle trade-in program

Though other trade-in services may yield higher returns, Amazon’s program wins out for easy shipping and payment via a gift card applied directly to your account.

Here’s how the Kindle trader in program works:

1. Select item(s) to trade in:

Start from Amazon’s Trade-In page, where you can choose from a range of categories. Opening a category tab presents a list of products registered to your Amazon account. From here, select the item or items you’d like to trade in. The potential trade-in value appears beside each product.

2. Answer the qualifying questions:

Once you’ve selected your item, a questionnaire will appear to assess the condition of your device, including any cracks, damage and charge capacity. Your answers will be evaluated during the inspection process, so detail here ensures a more realistic value.

If there is an inaccurate description found, you can choose between taking a lower estimated trade-in value or having Amazon return the device to your shipping address.

3. Trade in shipping:

On completing the questionnaire, you’ll get a UPS shipping label to pack and send your device.  The prepaid label gives you 45 days to ship the package, with tracking information designated to your trade-in.

4. Wait for your trade to process:

Once the package is received, Amazon takes 10 days to evaluate and process the trade-in offer. Typically, you will receive your Amazon gift card or credit within 10 days. The credit will be applied to your account.

Earning points with the Kindle Rewards program

Kindle Rewards are given to customers who purchase Kindle books and print books. Program members earn 5 points for every dollar spent on Kindle books and 2 points for every dollar spent on a print book bought on Amazon.com. Note that you will not earn Kindle rewards for textbooks, magazines, newspapers, audiobooks, comics, or digital subscription purchases. Each qualifying book on Amazon will show how many points will be awarded for the purchase of the Kindle ebook version and the print version.

Redeeming Kindle Rewards points

After members earn 300 points, they can redeem the points for $3.00 off the price of a Kindle book. Members have six months from the date of earning the points to redeem them. Kindle Rewards points can only be used for credits towards the purchase of Kindle books. They can’t be used for other purchases on Amazon.

Becoming a member of the Kindle Rewards program

Amazon says that “participation in Kindle Rewards is free. We launched this program to reward people like you, who love to read.” However, at this point Amazon chooses who it will allow into the program. Amazon is beta-testing Kindle Rewards and during this testing period, there isn’t a way to sign up for the program – participation is invite-only for now. It’s likely that most people who own Kindle devices are invited.

How to fix the white screen on your Kindle

Here are five quick fixes for the Kindle white screen of death issue.

Restart your Kindle

Hard Restart your Kindle

Kindle Page Numbers vs Location Numbers

Kindle books display location numbers by default instead of page numbers. The reason for this is that Kindle page numbers can vary by different screen and font sizes, while Kindle location numbers are consistent no matter what type of device or font settings you are using. Jump to a page or location on a Kindle

Here’s how you can move to or navigate to a page number or location while reading on a Kindle eReader:

• Open the book on your Kindle
• Tap the top of the screen
• Select the icon that looks like three stacked lines, to the right of the “Aa” icon.
• Choose from these options:
  • Go to Page or Location: You’ll need to enter a page number or location number.
  • Beginning: Brings you back to page one of your book.
  • Chapter or Section in the Table of Contents: Brings you to the beginning of a chapter or book section.

Jump to a Kindle book page or location on Fire tablets

Here’s how you can skip ahead in a Kindle book or navigate to a page location when reading on a Kindle Fire.

• Open the book on your Kindle
• Tap the center of the screen
• Select Go to
• Choose from these options:
  • Go to Page or Location: You’ll need to enter a page or location number.
  • Sync to Furthest Page Read: Brings you to the furthest page you’ve read, even if you read it on another device.

• At the bottom of the screen you will see the page number, percentage read so far and a slider that lets you jump forward.
• Tap the middle of the screen to get back to reading.

Deregistering a device does not cancel your Amazon account or wipe out your Kindle library. All the books you have ever purchased on Kindle are stored in the cloud and you can pull them down to any device at any time.

How to unregister your Kindle

With your Kindle device in hand, follow these steps to deregister your Kindle:

1. From any screen swipe down
2. This will open the Quick Actions dialog
3. Select Settings or All Settings.
4. Go to Your/My Account
5. Select Deregister/Deregister Device.
6. If prompted, select Deregister again to confirm.

Now the device you are holding is no longer registered to your Amazon account.

How to unregister your Kindle from a PC or Mac

With your Kindle device in hand, follow these steps to deregister your Kindle:

1. Login to Amazon
2. Go here https://www.amazon.com/hz/mycd/digital-console/alldevices to manage your devices:

Note: While your Kindle library is no longer accessible on the deregistered device, the books you have bought are safe in the Amazon cloud. Kindles use front-lit screens which are supposed to be easier on your eyes than back-lit screens. But what’s not easy is finding the screen brightness setting on your first try. Keep reading to learn why adjusting the screen light is important and how to access this setting on your Kindle.

Front-Lit Screens vs. Back-Lit Screens

Amazon’s latest eReaders have front-lit screens which Amazon calls “front lights.” Ereaders with front lights are composed of three key layers. The first layer is the iconic E-Ink display, which helps improve readability for users. The middle layer is a multi-touch screen, and the outermost layer is called a “light guide.” These layers work together to create sharper images and better resolution.

There are 24 different levels of brightness to choose from on the front-lit screens, so you can read comfortably in the middle of the night or outside on a sunny afternoon.

Older model Kindle Paperwhites came with back-lit screens. These are harder on your eyes as the LED lights are shining toward your eyes rather than just diffusely lighting the screen. Additionally, these models had fewer screen light adjustment settings.

How to Adjust Brightness Level on Kindle

You can adjust the brightness on your Kindle with two simple motions.

1. From the Home screen of your Kindle swipe down to open the Quick Actions menu or select the Settings icon. (If you’re currently reading a book, simply tap the top of the screen.) Using either method brings up a control panel like this:
2. To adjust the brightness, use the slider or tap + or – icons.
3. To go back to your book swipe up
4. To go back to the home screen swipe up, then tap the back arrow.

How to turn on a Kindle

The latest generations of Kindle tablets (4th generation and up) have the power button located on the bottom edge of the device near the charging port. If you have a 2nd generation Kindle, the power button can be found along the top edge of the tablet. 1st generation devices actually have a power button on the back of the tablet near its speaker.

However, despite the differences in button location, the process to turn it on is the same. Simply press the button for a second, and the screen should light up.

How to turn on a Kindle Paperwhite

Kindle Paperwhite devices (7th generation and up) have power buttons located along the bottom edge of the tablet. Earlier versions of the Paperwhite may have a thicker edge, but the general location of the power button remains the same.

To turn your Paperwhite on, simply press the button for a second. If you don’t use your Kindle for a few minutes, it will automatically go into sleep mode. If you want to put your device to sleep, simply press the power button again when the screen is on.

How to turn on a Kindle Oasis

On all generations of the Kindle Oasis, the power button sits along the top right edge of the tablet. To turn it on, press the power button for a second to see the screen light up.

How to turn off your Kindle

Kindle devices go into sleep mode automatically after a few minutes of inactivity, but you can manually put your Kindle to sleep or turn it off completely. To turn off any Kindle device, just press and release the power button when the screen is on. You’ll know it worked if you see the screen saver or your lock screen image after pressing the button.

To completely turn off your Kindle, press and hold the power button for about 10 seconds, or until the screen goes dark. To turn it back on, just press the button again.
