Every Kindle, from the classic Kindle e-reader to the Kindle Paperwhite, Kindle Oasis, and even Kindle apps on phones or tablets–can be given a name. Naming your device helps you quickly recognize it in your Amazon account, making it easier to send books to the right Kindle and keep track of multiple devices in your household.
Whether you have one Kindle or many, giving each one a clear name saves time and avoids confusion.
How to Name Your Kindle Device
Here’s how you can set or change the name of your Kindle e-reader:
1. Turn on your Kindle and go to the Home screen.
2. Tap the Menu (three dots) in the top right corner.
3. Select Settings.
4. Choose Device Options.
5. Tap Personalize Your Kindle.
6. Select Device Name.
7. Enter your preferred name and confirm.
Your Kindle will now display the new name both on the device and in your Amazon account.
How to Name Your Kindle App on iOS or Android
If you read Kindle books on your phone or tablet, you can also rename the Kindle app so it’s easy to recognize in your Amazon account:
1. Open the Kindle app on your iOS or Android device.
2. Tap the More menu (three horizontal lines).
3. Select Settings.
4. Scroll down and tap Device Name.
5. Enter a descriptive name (e.g., Paul’s iPhone Kindle).
6. Tap Save.
Now when you send books from Amazon, you’ll see the Kindle app listed with the name you chose.
How to View All of Your Kindle Devices on Amazon.com
You can manage and view every Kindle you own directly from your Amazon account:
1. Go to Amazon.com and sign in.
2. Hover over Accounts & Lists and select Content & Devices.
3. Click the Devices tab.
4. Here, you’ll see a list of all your registered Kindle devices and apps with their assigned names.
How to Unregister a Device
Sometimes you’ll want to remove a Kindle from your account. To unregister:
1. On your Kindle, open Settings.
2. Tap Your Account.
3. Select Unregister Device and confirm.
You might want to unregister a device if:
– You’re selling or giving away your Kindle.
– You’re replacing it with a newer model.
– You want to declutter old devices from your account.
– You want to reset a Kindle for troubleshooting.
What to Do If You Lose Your Device
If your Kindle is lost or stolen, here’s what to do:
1. Log into Amazon.com and open Content & Devices.
2. Find the missing Kindle under the Devices tab.
3. Click Deregister to remove your account information.
4. Optionally, select Mark as Lost/Stolen so Amazon can block the device from future use.
By deregistering, you’ll prevent anyone from buying books or accessing your account from your lost Kindle.
