Kindle Unlimited (KU) lets you borrow eligible Kindle titles under a monthly subscription. If a borrowed KU book disappears, it is usually caused by a sync issue, a filter in your library view, a registration mismatch, or a change to your subscription status.
What Is Kindle Unlimited?
Kindle Unlimited is Amazon’s subscription reading service. In the U.S., a Kindle Unlimited membership costs $11.99 per month plus taxes. It lets you borrow from a large catalog of eligible eBooks, audiobooks, and magazines, and you can borrow up to 20 titles at a time.
Why a Kindle Unlimited Book Might Disappear
If a Kindle Unlimited book disappears, the cause is usually something simple, such as a sync problem, a library filter, or an account issue.
- Your device has not synced recently
- A filter is hiding Borrowed items or Kindle Unlimited items
- Your library is set to Downloaded only instead of All
- Your Kindle Unlimited subscription is paused, expired, or payment failed
- You borrowed the book on a different Amazon account than the one your device is registered to
- The title was removed from your device and needs to be delivered again from Manage Your Content and Devices
- The book left the Kindle Unlimited catalog, which can affect availability for future borrows
Steps to Get a Disappeared KU Book Back
Use these steps to rule out syncing problems, account issues, and delivery settings that commonly cause borrowed Kindle Unlimited books to disappear.
- Confirm you are connected to Wi-Fi
- Sync your device or app
- Open your Library and switch to the All view, then remove any filters and check Borrowed items
- On Amazon.com, check Your Memberships & Subscriptions to confirm Kindle Unlimited is active
- On Amazon.com, open Your Orders and confirm the borrow transaction appears
- On Manage Your Content and Devices, locate the borrowed book and deliver it to your device if needed
- If you use more than one Amazon account, confirm your Kindle or Kindle app is registered to the same account that borrowed the book
- If the title is still eligible in Kindle Unlimited, open its Amazon listing and borrow it again if necessary
If you need help finding your collection view, start with your Kindle Library and confirm you are looking at the All view, not Downloaded only.
