Tortoises on the Via de la Plata

Tortoises on the Via
When I was nine, I thought I could fly, my dreams were dashed by my foster mother aged sixty-three when she told me I was too fat and too slow. I took her words to heart and, aged fifty, I was morbidly obese, a stay at home mum whose children were getting older, and bored. I wanted to live. I dreamed of walking to Santiago but I couldn’t walk a mile to the shops. My slim, fit partner told me that I would never be able to do it and to stop going on about it. I took his words to heart too, especially when I was diagnosed with diabetes.

But four years later my heart rebelled and I took responsibility for myself. My story looks at the child I was and the woman I became. $0.99 on Kindle.
